His Experience was described by The Chronicle as “Grooving and accessible music that draws on the melodic, wired-up sound of Miles Davis and Weather Report, the Crusaders’ elegant funk, Bach, rock, and a touch of techno-pop.”

• Gaucho
  July 22

Gaucho is rooted firmly in the 1930s Gypsy Jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt, and features some of the best acoustic instrumentalists in the Bay Area. Fronted by guitarists Dave Rickets and Mike Groh, this “Hot Club” style sextet combines instrumental virtuosity with an infectious energy and sense of fun.

• VW Brothers (Mark & Paul Van Wageningen)

The brothers Van Wageningen have been a major force in the Bay Area jazz scene for nearly 30 years. Mark (bass) and Paul (drums) have worked extensively with such artists as Stan Getz, Paquito D’Rivera and George Duke, and have just released their new CD Muziek. Expect powerful contemporary jazz mixed with blistering funk and Afro-Cuban fire.

The careers of Zaccai and Luques Curtis have only really started, yet they have already come so far. Individually, the pair work steadily with straight-ahead and Latin jazz artists like Eddie Palmieri, Gary Burton and Jerry Gonzales, and their collaborative efforts are a perfect distillation of those Latin and post-bop influences. Future jazz superstars in the making!

Vocalist Jamie Davis has a silky-smooth delivery that earned him a spot as headliner in the Count Basie Orchestra from 2000-2003. His smoky croon earns comparisons to an assortment of blue-chip icons from Joe Williams to Mark Murphy and even Nat King Cole. Hear the artist the San Jose Mercury called “one of the finest male jazz singers on the West Coast.”
