W H A T : SHADOWSHOP COMMISSION: IMIN YEH
At Shadowshop, kick off an alternative Chinese New Year celebration with artist Imin Yeh, whose February project involves museum visitors producing seemingly “auspicious” cultural objects. Yeh’s “NianHua Workshop” will take place on designated days in February, culminating in a festival sale on February 24. NianHua banners, made by traditional wood-block technique, depict beneficent deities and are produced specifically for the New Year. During the drop-in workshops, visitors will be invited to join an assembly line of production, helping to make affordable, hand-colored wood-block prints of newly created urban gods.
W H E N : Festival Sale: February 24, 2011 | 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Workshops: February… 24, 2011 | Noon – 5:00 p.m.
